Job summary

Brown University Health Pharmacy is seeking a Pharmacist for outpatient and clinical support at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. The role involves interpreting orders, ensuring safe and effective drug therapy, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

The Pharmacist will supervise pharmacy staff, participate in SDPMP and MAP processes, and engage in quality improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
• Current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist in Rhode Island, or 90-day temporary license with full licensure before expiration.

Responsibilities

• Apply pharmacotherapeutic and pharmacokinetic principles to ensure safe and effective use of medications.
• Review medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness considering patient status, concomitant therapy, and age-related factors.
• Contact prescriber to initiate interventions to maximize efficacy, minimize risks, and optimize cost effectiveness.
• Provide education to patients and families on medication use and risks.
• Participate in education of healthcare staff, pharmacists, technicians, interns, and residents; may serve as a preceptor.
• Perform immunizations or medication administrations per Rhode Island Board of Pharmacy rules (where applicable).
• Ensure documentation of drug purchases, storage, preparation, and distribution per policy.
