Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia is seeking Medical Assistants to provide clinical support in an ambulatory setting under physician supervision. Duties include patient care, vital signs, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and administrative tasks to ensure smooth clinic operations.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program with MA certification within six months of hire. AHA BLS is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Medical Assistant certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Support clinic operations and communicate with team and patients.
• Perform clinical intake, data collection and documentation.
• Assist with examinations, specimen collection and basic testing.
• Prepare labs, sterilize equipment, and dispose of regulated waste.
• Prioritize daily tasks to assist patient flow and efficiency.
• Provide age-appropriate care under the supervising provider.
• Reinforce patient teaching using approved materials.
• Maintain a safe clinical environment and restock supplies.
• Document charges for services rendered during visits.
• Provide administrative support: scheduling, letters, forms, meds refills.
• Demonstrate teamwork and handle time-sensitive issues.
• Pursue professional development per department policy.
