Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia are seeking Medical Assistants to provide clinical and administrative support in an ambulatory setting under supervision. The role involves patient care, vital signs, lab testing, and documentation to promote patient health and well-being.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, assisting licensed clinicians, data collection, and maintaining efficient clinic operations while ensuring a safe care environment for all ages.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: None required.
• Licensure: AHA BLS certification required and MA certification through a recognized national association.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining effective and efficient clinic operations with communication to team members, providers, and patients.
• Assist with data collection for physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions.
• Complete standardized rooming and clinical intake, data collection, and documentation.
• Provide clinical support to licensed healthcare professionals during examinations and procedures, including specimen preparation and point-of-care testing.
• Organize and prioritize daily work to support patient needs and team efficiency.
• Reinforce patient/family teaching and ensure safe delivery of care.
• Document and capture charges for clinical services rendered during visits.
• Provide administrative support such as drafting letters, scheduling, and handling forms and messages.
