Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia seeks a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in an ambulatory setting under the supervision of the physician or licensed provider.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, preparing specimens, assisting with examinations, documenting charges, and coordinating with the care team to ensure efficient clinic operations. This role requires a high school diploma and AHA BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: None required.
• Licensure: AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification; MA certification from AAMA/AMT/NAHP/ARMA/NHA.

Responsibilities

• Assists in assuring effective and efficient clinic operations with team communication.
• Data collection for physical, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions per standards.
• Completes standardized rooming and clinical intake and data documentation.
• Provides clinical support during examinations (lab testing, venipuncture, ECG, spirometry, specimen collection).
• Organizes daily work to support patient needs and efficiency.
• Implements age-appropriate interventions as directed by HCP.
• Reinforces patient/family teaching with approved materials.
• Maintains safe environment and equipment; documents charges for services.
• Provides administrative support (draft letters, scheduling, refills, chart prep).
• Demonstrates teamwork and pursues professional development.
