Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide developmentally appropriate care in the outpatient clin­ic setting. The role involves assisting with patient flow, obtaining vitals, drawing blood, and performing routine tests under physician supervision.

The successful candidate will have CMA or RMA credentials (or MA program completion) and at least two years of MA experience, with willingness to obtain MA certification within 90 days of hire. Travel to clinics will be required.

Qualifications

• One of CMA, RMA, or completion of accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
• Minimum of two years Medical Assistant experience in clinical/ambulatory or critical care setting.
• Must be willing to obtain Medical Assistant certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient flow in the outpatient clinic.
• Respond promptly to call-lights.
• Provide comfort to patients and family.
• Perform technical and supportive patient care per plan of care and policies.
• Obtain vital signs and document chief complaint and reason for visit.
• Use aseptic technique and infection control measures.
• Collect specimens (urine, feces) and obtain blood via venipuncture.
• Perform routine tests (urine chemistry, guaiac, pH, glucose, UPT, hemoccult).
• Document interventions and measurements accurately and communicate with providers.
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and environment in clean, safe condition.
