Job summary

MedStar Health seeks a Medical Assistant to perform clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under physician/provider supervision. Duties include venipuncture, vaccines, vital signs, and assisting with patient exams, with potential to float to other sites within the system.

The ideal candidate holds a High School Diploma or GED and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program; 6–12 months in ambulatory care is preferred, CMA/RMA and CPR certifications within 1

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Less than 1 year or 6 months experience in ambulatory care required; externship preferred.
• For Cardiology offices only: 6 months experience or related degree or certification preferred.
• Prior medical assistant experience preferred.
• CMA or RMA certification within 1 year; CPR certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies, quality and safety standards.
• Assists providers with patient exams, prep, education, and minor procedures; supports team with patient flow.
• Participates in daily huddles and screens patients for preventative care needs and barriers to care.
• Conducts patient screening and coaching on disease management and community outreach needs.
• Reports issues within the MedStar Health system and participates in quality and safety initiatives.
• Maintains temperature logs, inventory, and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Performs point-of-care testing and document in EMR; may float to other sites as needed.
• Provides telephone screening and coordinates referrals/Pre-authorizations.
