Job summary

Mass General Brigham’s Cancer Institute at Brigham and Women’s Hospital seeks an ambulatory Staff Nurse RN to support hematology/oncology care in a newly built outpatient clinic on the Brigham Main Campus. You will work in a multidisciplinary team, coordinate patient care, triage symptoms by phone and Gateway messages, and provide education and support to patients and families.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of hematology/oncology nursing experience.
• Experience coordinating and monitoring patients undergoing lumbar punctures and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy.
• Knowledge of leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other hematologic malignancies.
• Experience in hematology/oncology triage.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required for newly licensed nurses.
• OCN chemotherapy certification required.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a point of contact with patients at home and in the ambulatory/outpatient setting to optimize clinical management in collaboration with attending physicians and the multidisciplinary care team.
• Communicates with patients via daily telephone triage and Gateway messages.
• Assists in triage of symptom management and medical urgencies to attending physicians and advanced practice providers.
• Monitors patients at home for chemotherapy/surgery/radiation-related toxicities and screening for unanticipated toxicities/events.
• Coordinates home services including visiting nursing, palliative care and hospice, home infusion, laboratory services and monitoring.
• Coordinates and performs blood draws and routine flushing and maintenance of central lines.
• Coordinates, performs, and documents injections and vaccinations per protocol.
• Coordinates, performs and documents intravenous therapies within the practice and in collaboration with the Short Stay Infusion Units.
• Assists attending physicians and advanced practice providers with outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
