Job summary

James Madison University is seeking a Student Writing Assistant (FWS) to support the Office of Alumni Relations in Harrisonburg, VA. The role focuses on story development, interviewing and content editing for alumni features and Madison Magazine.

The student must be a current JMU student enrolled in at least 6 credits, with AP style knowledge and strong writing skills. Availability is 10 hours per week, mostly 8:00 am–5:00 pm, Monday–Friday, in the Leeolou Alumni Center.

Qualifications

• Current JMU student enrolled in at least 6 credits
• Knowledge of AP style and strong writing skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Ability to interview alumni professionally
• Able to work within the JMUAA brand

Responsibilities

• Identify key alumni for interviewing and develop content across platforms
• Interview alumni award recipients and write bios
• Develop stories for Madison Magazine and online publications
• Promote alumni successes through storytelling
• Work with supervisor to create a story timeline and meet deadlines
• Maintain the JMUAA voice and brand integrity
• Write other writing assignments as needed
• Get trained in Cascade CMS and maintain alumni stories
