Job summary

Miller Industries, a leading manufacturer of towing and recovery equipment, is hiring a Welder 2 for our Hermitage, PA facility. The role requires welding aluminum, reading blueprints, and performing MIG welds on metal components.

You will work a four-day on, four-day off schedule in a climate-controlled environment, with opportunities for tuition reimbursement and professional development. Starting pay is competitive and includes an alum premium where applicable.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Schedule four days on, then four days off.
  • Must wear required PPE including a PAPR for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Weld aluminum parts to blueprints using gas or MIG welding.
  • Position parts in fixtures or jigs on bench or floor.
  • Inspect welds for bead size and specifications.
  • Repair broken or cracked metal objects and build up metal parts.
  • Lay out and tack weld workpieces as directed by layout marks.
  • Grind and clean welds, remove slag and spatter as needed.
  • Read AWS blueprints and MIG weld when required.

Summary:

Welds metal parts with gas welding equipment as specified by blueprints by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to weld aluminum
  • Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks.
  • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts.
  • Lays out, positions, and tack welds workpieces.
  • Scarfs or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal.
  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
  • Cleans or degreases parts.
  • Ability to MIG weld
  • Ability to read AWS blueprints
  • Ability to perform physical aspects of the job including climbing step ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and standing for long periods of time
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:

  • Must be able to wear required PPE including a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) weighing approximately 2.5 pounds for extended periods of time (10-12 hours).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Education and Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to work a schedule of four days on, then four days off.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to work four 10-hour days, occasionally working 40+ hours/week as business demands.
  • Ability to wear protective gear due to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Ability to frequently be exposed to flashing lights.
  • Must occasionally be exposed to weather conditions such as: precipitation, extreme cold and extreme heat.
  • Regularly required to wear hearing protection in a loud environment.
