Job summary

Southern Tire Mart is seeking a punctual diesel mechanic to diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers. You will conduct PM inspections, operate diagnostic tools, and respond to roadside service calls with the company truck.

The role requires strong mechanical knowledge, the ability to lift heavy tires and equipment, and a valid driver's license. Flexible hours and OT may be required; opportunity for career growth within a national leader in commercial fleet services.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (trade school certification a plus).
  • Prior experience as a diesel mechanic, fleet technician, or heavy truck mechanic preferred.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and problem-solving ability.
  • Must be able to lift/move tires and equipment (30-250 lbs., with or without mechanical aids).
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Willingness to work in varying conditions (weather, noise, physical demands).
  • Available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required.

Job description

Diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers, including:

Brakes

HVAC systems

Drivetrains

Electrical systems

Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspections

Conduct fleet inspections and perform scheduled maintenance.

Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues accurately.

Perform tire-related services as needed (mounting, balancing, repairing).

Use and maintain Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS).

Maintain detailed records of work performed.

Adhere to all safety guidelines, company policies, and DOT regulations.

Respond to roadside service calls using a company service truck (F-350), when required.

Assist with parts inventory and shop organization.

Complete other duties as assigned.
