Job summary

Southern Tire Mart is seeking a mobile diesel technician to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair semi-trucks and trailers. You will drive a service truck to breakdown locations, inspect systems, and perform repairs with training provided as needed, including oil changes and brake services.

Applicants must pass pre-employment drug screens and a physical, have a valid driver’s license, and be prepared for background checks. Experience is preferred but not required; on-call field visits are common.

Qualifications

• Experience or training in basic mechanic duties; will train on tasks/duties not experienced in.
• Valid driver’s license required at all times.
• Pre-employment drug screens and physical required.
• Background check including SSN verification, DMV report, criminal background and work history.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, Diagnose, and Repair Semi-Truck and Trailers, including tires, HVAC, brakes, steering and suspension, PM inspections, drive train and electrical.
• Drive a service truck to onsite locations where the guest is broken down.
• Consult the customer and read work orders to evaluate tasks required.
• Prepare work plans after fully scoping issues.
• Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to offer solutions.
• Inspect vehicle systems including suspensions, steering and exhausts.
• Repair or replace transmissions, brakes, engines and related parts.
• Conduct field visits for emergencies or breakdowns.
• Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge performance.
• Complete oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment and brake checks.
• Maintain records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles.

Job description

• Troubleshoot, Diagnose, and Repair Semi-Truck and Trailers to include but not limited to: Commercial Tires, HVAC, Brakes, Steering & Suspension, PM Inspections, Drive Train and Electrical


• Ability to drive a service truck (F-350) to an onsite location where guest is broken down


• Consulting the customer and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks required


• Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues


• Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions


• Inspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts


• Repairing or replacing vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines and other associated parts


• Conducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown


• Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performance


• Completing oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment and brake checks


• Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles

Skills / Education / Requirements:

• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screens and physical


• Previous experience in basic mechanic duties/technician history preferred but not required. WILL TRAIN on any tasks/duties that employee does not have experience.


• Must maintain a valid driver’s license at all times


• Pass a background check of SSN verification, DMV report, criminal background and work history


• General understanding of diesel diagnostics


• Any certification in automotive service preferred
