Position Overview

We are an innovative and collaborative team of designers that prepare submittal and field installation drawings, installation details, calculations, and submittal data for fire alarm and detection systems based on the requirements set by NFPA code standards, the International Building and Fire Codes, and the Local Authority or fire marshal. The position is an experienced level in fire alarm design and requires minimal training, which will focus on company policies and standards.

The designer will need to read construction drawings, prepare fire protection installation drawings, battery calculations, material stocklists, visit construction sites to review actual field conditions, and troubleshoot installation conflicts.

District Overview

Continental Fire Sprinkler Company, a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, is a fire protection contractor headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. Since 1971, it has completed projects across 46 states, offering construction, testing, and maintenance services in Fire Suppression.

Location

This position is based in Omaha, NE.

Responsibilities

1. Design fire alarm and detection systems proficiently.
2. Detail shop drawings, field engineering, and operation planning.
3. Prepare plan and material submittals for review.
4. Coordinate design with building structure and other MEP contractors.
5. Prepare project material stocklists.
6. Oversee project scheduling, onsite operations, and procurement.
7. Provide field engineering troubleshooting and support.
8. Manage contract administration and communication with stakeholders.
9. Prepare “as-built” drawings.
10. Understand project costs related to engineering, materials, and labor.
11. Travel to construction sites as needed (25%-50%).
12. Teach others to read construction, engineering, architectural, and structural plans.
13. Teach construction methods, practices, and terminology.
14. Perform peer review and mentoring.
15. Research NFPA, Building, and Fire Codes independently.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred, or 2+ years fire alarm design and construction experience.
• AutoCAD proficiency.
• NICET certification preferred.
• Experience with MS Excel and Word.
