Job summary

The City of Houston invites applications for a Maintenance Mechanic III to prevent mechanical failure, identify safety hazards, and inspect, repair, and maintain pumps, plumbing, and other equipment across HAS facilities including IAH, HOU, and EFD. The role requires physical work, shift flexibility, and potential leadership of junior staff.

Candidate must obtain security badge access within six months and may need a CDL; a Texas driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in Building or Mechanical maintenance is required.
• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with City of Houston driving policy; CDL may be required.
• Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date.
• Shift work including weekends and holidays; rotating shifts across days and nights may occur.

Responsibilities

• Installs mechanical equipment and components.
• Repairs, refurbishes, and maintains pumps and miscellaneous rotating and reciprocating equipment and machinery.
• Operates vehicles and specialized equipment (drain cleaners, sewer machines, vacuum trucks, trailers) in support of restroom and facility maintenance.
• Repairs and maintains equipment and parts; practices equipment and parts conservation.
• Performs additional maintenance such as painting, A/C repairs, carpentry, carpet, plumbing, concrete and roofing repairs.
• Rehabilitates and monitors equipment, facilities, and systems (elevators, escalators, automatic doors, gates, A/C and heating equipment).
• Provides preventive maintenance to equipment, buildings, facilities, and systems.
• May lead and train lower-level personnel.
