Job summary

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) is seeking an HVAC Operator in Charge to ensure safe, continuous operation of HVAC systems at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). You will monitor systems, respond to alarms, troubleshoot, and coordinate with maintenance teams.

The role requires five years of journey-level HVAC experience, EPA Section 608 certification, and a valid state driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of HVAC systems and equipment.
• Full performance (journey level) knowledge of operating, testing, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC equipment and systems.
• Ability to work independently, make decisions, and guide others to maintain or restore service.
• Ability to analyze data and interpret schematics, diagrams, and manuals to troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Skill in using tools, manuals, schematics, blueprints, and other HVAC references.

Responsibilities

• Receive and investigate after-hours trouble calls and take appropriate action.
• Record readings from meters and gauges on boilers, chillers, thermo ice-storage machines, and control panels; adjust controls as needed.
• Advise supervisors of major malfunctions or unsafe conditions.
• Restart boilers and chillers after power outages; respond to alarm panels for electrical and water systems.
• Train new employees and perform rounds to ensure proper operation and minor repairs.
