Job summary

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority seeks an HVAC Utility Operator to maintain safe operation of industrial boilers, chillers, heat pumps, and HVAC equipment at Washington Dulles International Airport.

The role requires journey-level experience with central plant systems, including after-hours shifts. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and reporting safety concerns. A strong foundation in BAS, schematics, and data analysis is essential.

Qualifications

• Four years of progressively responsible experience in operating, monitoring, or maintaining central plant heating/cooling systems.
• Two of the four years must be in safely servicing central plant auxiliary equipment (pumps, compressors, cooling towers).
• Knowledge of boiler and generator safety controls and troubleshooting.
• Ability to operate BAS and interpret schematics.

Responsibilities

• Receive after-hours work requests and take appropriate action.
• Record readings of meters/gauges on high‑pressure boilers and chillers.
• Restart boilers and chillers after power outages; respond to alarms.
• Perform preventive maintenance evenings, nights, or weekends as needed.
• Advise Supervisors on major malfunctions and safety issues.
• Operate and troubleshoot industrial boilers, chillers, and HVAC equipment.
