Job summary

Mead & Hunt, Inc. seeks a limited-term, full-time Civil Engineering Intern to assist with construction inspection on airport projects in Portland, OR and other sites in OR/WA, starting May/June 2027 and ending Aug/Sept 2027.

The intern will support engineers, technicians, and construction managers with civil airport projects, measurements, pay estimates, field inspection, and documentation. A valid driver’s license and travel to project sites ~100% are required.

Qualifications

• Two semesters of civil engineering coursework completed by date of hire.
• Construction field experience including observation and documentation.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers, technicians, and managers with civil airport projects.
• Perform measurements, quantity calculations and prepare pay estimates.
• Assist with project report preparation and documentation.
• Perform field inspection and writing tasks as needed.
• Support other tasks assigned by the project team.

As a result of our expansive growth, we have a position available for a limited-term, full-time civil engineering intern to perform construction inspection on construction sites for airport projects based in Portland, OR (and other various project sites located within the states of OR and WA) starting in May/June 2027 and ending in August/September 2027.

This intern will be responsible for assisting engineers, technicians, and construction managers with civil engineering projects in the following areas:

• Assisting engineers, technicians, and construction managers with civil airport projects including taxiways, runways, aprons, etc.
• Performing measurements and quantity calculations and preparing pay estimates
• Assisting with project report preparation
• Performing field inspection and documentation
• Some technical research and writing
• Other tasks as assigned.

A valid driver’s license, the ability to pass background checks to gain access to airport sites, and frequent travel to construction project sites approximately 100% of the time (may also include overnight stays) will be required.

Successful candidates must have completed at least two semesters of college-level coursework in civil engineering from an accredited college or university by date of hire.

The ideal candidate will have experience with any/all the following:

• Construction field experience including observation and documentation
• Previous internships involving construction, DOT projects, and/or civil site inspections
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Civil3D software
• Understanding of basic grading and testing processes
• Knowledge of airport planning and/or design
• Civil engineering coursework

Mead & Hunt will not sponsor a visa (H-1B, etc.) for this position.

Hourly Rate Range: $18.00 - $25.00 – Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience, skill set or location.
