Job summary

Mead & Hunt is seeking a limited-term, full-time civil engineering intern to perform construction inspection on airport projects based in Portland, OR, and other sites in OR/WA. Start May/June 2027, end Aug/Sept 2027.

Responsibilities include assisting with inspections, measurements, reports, and field documentation. The ideal candidate has completed at least two semesters of civil engineering coursework and may have AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Microsoft Office experience.

Qualifications

• Two semesters of civil engineering coursework completed by date of hire.
• Experience with construction, DOT projects, and/or civil site inspections is desirable.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Civil3D is preferred.
• Understanding of basic grading and testing processes.
• Knowledge of airport planning and/or design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers, technicians, and construction managers on civil airport projects (taxiways, runways, aprons).
• Perform measurements, quantity calculations, and prepare pay estimates.
• Assist with project report preparation.
• Perform field inspection and documentation.
• Contribute to technical research and writing.
• Other tasks as assigned.

As a result of our expansive growth, we have a position available for a limited-term, full-time civil engineering intern to perform construction inspection on construction sites for airport projects based in Portland, OR (and other various project sites located within the states of OR and WA) starting in May/June 2027 and ending in August/September 2027.

This intern will be responsible for assisting engineers, technicians, and construction managers with civil engineering projects in the following areas:

• Assisting engineers, technicians, and construction managers with civil airport projects including taxiways, runways, aprons, etc.
• Performing measurements and quantity calculations and preparing pay estimates
• Assisting with project report preparation
• Performing field inspection and documentation
• Some technical research and writing
• Other tasks as assigned.

A valid driver’s license, the ability to pass background checks to gain access to airport sites, and frequent travel to construction project sites approximately 100% of the time (may also include overnight stays) will be required.

Successful candidates must have completed at least two semesters of college-level coursework in civil engineering from an accredited college or university by date of hire.

The ideal candidate will have experience with any/all the following:

• Construction field experience including observation and documentation
• Previous internships involving construction, DOT projects, and/or civil site inspections
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Civil3D software
• Understanding of basic grading and testing processes
• Knowledge of airport planning and/or design
• Civil engineering coursework

Hourly Rate Range: $18.00 - $25.00 – Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience, skill set or location.
