State of Hawai'i is hiring an Airport Operations Control Unit Supervisor I to organize and oversee airport ground operations at a neighboring island airport, supervising Airport Operations Controllers and directing scheduling, training, and procedures. The role includes shift work with evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• General Experience: Two (2) years of work experience which demonstrates the following abilities: meet and deal effectively with people; understand and apply various rules and regulations; prepare reports; act effectively in emergencies.
• Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of work experience in airport ground operations control work including assignment and control of aircraft parking positions; direction and control of movement of aircraft and vehicles on the ramp; inspection of runways; and enforcement of rules and regulations.
• For the classes Airport Operations Controller III and Airport Operations Control Unit Supervisor I, at least one (1) year of Specialized Experience required must have been comparable to the class Airport Operations Controller II.
• Supervisory Experience: Experience planning and directing the work of others; assigning and reviewing their work; advising on difficult problems; timing and scheduling; training and developing new employees.
• (*) For the classes Airport Operations Controller III and Airport Operations Control Unit Supervisor I, supervisory aptitude may be accepted via training, assignments, or favorable appraisals indicating potential.
• Driver's License: Valid driver's license to drive in Hawaii at time of appointment.
• Security Identification Area (SIDA) clearance: Pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check; must be free of disqualifying convictions in the preceding ten years.
• Legal Authorization to Work: Citizens, nationals, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Airport Operations Control Unit Supervisor I organizes, schedules, supervises and directs airport ground operations control activities and supervises Airport Operations Controller II positions.
• Exercises supervisory functions over a unit of Airport Operations Controllers and develops procedures; coordinates and schedules unit activities; reviews and reports on operations.
