Job summary

The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation seeks an Airport Operations Control Unit Supervisor I to organize, schedule, supervise and direct airport ground operations at a neighbor island airport.

The role oversees Airport Operations Controllers, trains staff, coordinates unit activities, and develops procedures; requires specialized experience, supervisory skills, a valid driver's license, and SIDA clearance as part of the hiring process.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of work experience which demonstrates abilities to meet and deal effectively with people, understand and apply rules, prepare reports, and act in emergencies.
• Three (3) years of work experience in airport ground operations control, including aircraft parking positions and movement control, ramp inspections, and enforcement of rules.
• For higher classes, at least one year of specialized experience comparable to Airport Operations Controller II in the State service.
• Supervisory experience including planning, directing, evaluating work, advising on problems, scheduling, and training.
• Valid driver's license to drive in Hawaii at time of appointment.
• SIDA clearance requirements including fingerprint-based criminal history check, with no disqualifying convictions in the past ten years.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Organize, schedule, supervise and direct airport ground operations control activities at a neighbor island airport or HIA.
• Direct training and development of subordinates; coordinate and schedule unit activities; review and report on overall operations.
• Develop changes in work procedures and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
• Possess supervisory aptitude appropriate to Airport Operations Controller III and related positions.
