Job summary

LHH is seeking an Air Export Manager to lead and oversee all air export operations within a freight forwarding environment in Washington, DC. You will manage a team of Air Export Coordinators and Specialists, ensure on-time execution, and maintain strong relationships with customers and carriers.

You will ensure compliance with IATA, TSA, CBP, EAR, and internal SOPs, drive continuous improvement, and support business growth through operational excellence and KPI achievement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all day-to-day air export operations.
• Oversee international air freight shipments from booking to delivery.
• Ensure timely, accurate export documentation processing.
• Monitor shipment status and resolve service issues proactively.
• Manage capacity planning and carrier relationships to optimize service and cost.
• Achieve and monitor operational KPI targets.
• Supervise and develop Air Export Coordinators and Specialists.
• Conduct performance reviews and training initiatives.
• Foster a high-performance culture focused on customer service.
• Manage staffing levels and succession planning.
• Build strong relationships with key customers.
• Serve as senior escalation point for service issues.
• Collaborate with sales teams to support account growth.

Job description

The Air Export Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all air export operations within a freight forwarding environment. This role manages a team of air export specialists, ensures compliance with international shipping regulations, maintains customer satisfaction, drives operational excellence, and supports business growth. The Air Export Manager serves as the primary escalation point for customers, airlines, overseas partners, and internal stakeholders while ensuring profitability and on-time execution of international air freight shipments.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

• Lead and manage all day-to-day air export operations.
• Oversee the movement of international air freight shipments from booking through final delivery.
• Ensure timely and accurate processing of export documentation.
• Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve service issues.
• Manage capacity planning and carrier relationships to optimize service and cost.
• Ensure operational KPI targets are achieved.
• Supervise, coach, and develop Air Export Coordinators and Specialists.
• Conduct performance reviews, training programs, and employee development initiatives.
• Foster a high-performance culture focused on customer service and continuous improvement.
• Manage staffing levels, workload distribution, and succession planning.

Customer Management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers.
• Act as senior escalation point for service issues.
• Participate in customer reviews and business development meetings.
• Collaborate with sales teams to support account growth and customer retention.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with:
• IATA regulations
• TSA requirements
• CBP regulations
• Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
• Dangerous Goods procedures
• Company SOPs
• Maintain audit readiness and operational compliance standards.
• Mitigate operational risks and ensure adherence to security programs.
