Job summary

Output Biosciences in New York seeks an experienced software engineer to build agent orchestration, inference serving, and API integrations for AI-driven biology tools. You will design multi-step workflows, implement model tooling, and establish reliable CI/CD, testing, and observability practices to accelerate research and product delivery.

The role emphasizes reliability, scalable systems, and collaboration with researchers, aiming to ship robust workflows and interfaces that external systems

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience building production software systems.
• Experience integrating ML models into products or workflows, including LLM-based systems.
• Strong Python engineering skills with well-tested production code.
• Experience designing APIs and building systems that other engineers/researchers depend on.
• Comfort with cloud infrastructure, containerization, and deployment pipelines.
• Thinks in systems: reliability, observability, graceful failure.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the agent orchestration system that composes model capabilities into multi-step workflows, handling sequencing and state management.
• Implement agent skills and tools exposing model capabilities to automated and interactive workflows.
• Build inference infrastructure for serving models efficiently (latency, throughput, reliability).
• Design and build APIs and MCP-compatible interfaces for external systems and researchers.
• Create internal tools to accelerate research, from experiment management to evaluation pipelines.
• Establish and maintain software engineering practices: testing, CI/CD, code review, documentation.
