Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory invites applications for a systems engineer within the Tactical Intelligent Systems Group (QAT) to advance AI, autonomy, and decision-making capabilities for national defense. You will join a team of scientists and engineers working on intelligent autonomous systems and analytic methods to inform weapon system design and fielding.

Ideal candidates hold a technical bachelor's degree with experience in autonomy, AI/ML, and simulation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or other relevant field with 2+ years of systems engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience on autonomy, AI/ML, or optimal control related efforts.
• Experience developing simulation models using C/C++/Java or similar languages.
• Excellent written and oral communication; strong collaboration and relationship-building.
• Willingness to travel to U.S. Government and defense contractor sites; ability to obtain required clearances.

Responsibilities

• Advance AI, machine learning, and autonomy capabilities for ISR, air-to-air, strike, and EW applications.
• Develop and apply software to code new real-time autonomy algorithms and simulations.
• Publish research results to advance knowledge in AI/RL/ML and autonomy.
