Job summary

IDB Invest, part of the IDB Group, offers a Winter Internship in Washington, DC for an active graduate student to join the Strategy & Knowledge (SPK) team. The intern will learn about semantic knowledge, taxonomy, and ontology design while contributing to AI-ready knowledge services.

Responsibilities include mapping metadata, developing a lightweight ontology, piloting taxonomy on content, and documenting standards and guidelines for future implementation.

Qualifications

• Active Graduate Student in a relevant field enrolled as of the internship start date.
• Fluency in English with working knowledge of another Bank language is a plus.
• Familiarity with taxonomy design, controlled vocabularies, and metadata frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Map current metadata, tagging, and categorization practices across knowledge platforms and data sources.
• Design and refine a controlled vocabulary and taxonomy aligned with business lines and knowledge products.
• Draft a lightweight ontology of entities and relationships for AI-powered search applications.
• Pilot-test the taxonomy on content, build a gold-standard reference set, and measure tagging consistency and retrieval accuracy.
• Document metadata standards, tagging guidelines, taxonomy structure, and ontology model; present recommendations.
