Job summary

OpenAI is seeking software engineers to join the observability effort across infrastructure, backend, and UI. You will help build scalable, AI-powered tooling to make OpenAI's production systems reliable and observable at scale.

You will own core observability infrastructure and contribute to dashboards, notebook-like debugging, and UI experiences, while collaborating with researchers, user ops, and product teams to ship robust, interpretable tools for deployment.

Qualifications

• Experience operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Ability to work in ambiguous environments and solve unscoped problems.
• Full-stack chops or product sensibilities—build real tools used by people.

Responsibilities

• Own core observability infrastructure, including distributed logging, time series, and trace storage.
• Build AI-native tools that help engineers detect, understand, and resolve issues autonomously.
• Contribute to UI experiences like dashboards, notebooking, or interactive debugging.
• Collaborate closely with engineers, researchers, user ops, and other teams to build the next-gen observability product.
