Job summary

University of Michigan is seeking an experienced software engineer to design, build, and maintain web applications and internal tools for the OVPR. You will integrate with university services via API Gateways, central identity systems, and data sources to deliver practical, scalable solutions.

You will work closely with unit staff, apply AI tooling where appropriate, and ensure accessibility and maintainability within a small, production-focused team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or related field or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years building and maintaining web applications (UI and server-side).
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Hands-on REST API development and system integration.
• Git and code-review workflows experience.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Able to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain web applications and internal tools.
• Develop and consume APIs across university services.
• Integrate with central identity services like Okta and Shibboleth.
• Deploy and support containerized applications on the U-M Container Service.
• Troubleshoot defects across full stack from UI to data layer.
• Model and query relational data behind OVPR apps.
• Build dashboards and reports from multiple data sources.
• Apply appropriate data handling for sensitive information.
