Job summary

3M in Maplewood, MN is seeking an AI/Machine Learning Engineer at an early career level to advance an internal AI architecture. You will translate Python research into robust Rust production components, build tests and simulations, and improve performance across real-time and on-prem/cloud deployments.

You will collaborate with researchers and senior engineers, manage containerized workloads, and contribute to a modular, scalable system while handling confidential IP and meeting acceptance

Qualifications

• Bachelors or higher in a relevant field, or HS diploma with 5+ years in software.
• 5 years of programming experience in Python and C++/Rust or similar.
• 3 years in core software engineering practices: version control, testing, documentation.

Responsibilities

• Translate Python research modules into readable, testable Rust components.
• Develop tests, benchmarks, simulations, and production validation.
• Improve performance, profiling, and scalability of AI components.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to meet requirements and tradeoffs.
