Job summary

3M Center Maplewood, MN is seeking an AI Software Developer, Early Career, to join an internal incubator building a world-class AI architecture. You will convert Python research code into scalable Rust production components, learn fast, and work with researchers and engineers to deliver tests, runtimes, and performance improvements.

The role emphasizes collaboration, rigorous testing, and responsible handling of confidential IP, with on-site work in Maplewood and travel up to 5%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in CS, computer engineering, or related field from accredited institution.
• OR High School Diploma with 5+ years of software development experience.
• 5 years programming in Python and C++, Rust, or similar language.
• 3 years of core software engineering practices including version control, code reviews, debugging and automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Translate Python research modules into readable, tested Rust components.
• Build and maintain tests: unit, integration, regression, simulation, determinism, reproducibility.
• Design stable interfaces and runtime components within a modular architecture.
• Profile performance: CPU, memory, latency, throughput; improve scalability.
• Support Python/Rust interoperability, containers, CI/CD, observability, deployment automation.
