Job summary

Sony Corporation of America is seeking a Staff Attorney, AI Governance, to join the AI Governance Office. The attorney will help develop and operationalize AI governance frameworks, assess legal and ethical risks, and support risk assessments across Sony Group.

Hybrid work is available with onsite three days per week in LA, NY, and San Mateo, with Seattle remote possibility based on needs. The role requires a J.D., bar admission, and 3+ years in technology-related legal matters, with strong

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Minimum of 3 years of legal experience in law firms, in-house, government, or related.
• Experience advising on technology-related legal matters.
• Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
• Strong judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
• Strong project management and organizational capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Support development and maintenance of Sony’s AI governance framework and risk management processes.
• Conduct legal and regulatory analysis relating to AI (IP, consumer protection, product liability, privacy, ethics).
• Review AI use cases to identify governance and ethical risks.
• Prepare memos, policies, guidance documents, and governance artifacts.
• Monitor global legal/regulatory developments affecting AI.
• Translate legal requirements into practical business guidance with cross-functional teams.
• Support governance forums, workshops, executive briefings, and AI literacy initiatives.
• Maintain governance documentation, templates, playbooks, and knowledge resources.
