Job summary

HDR seeks an Applied Data Scientist – AI Enablement in Irvine, CA to build internal AI capabilities, improve data foundations, and remove bottlenecks to scale AI across the Transportation Business Group.

Initially internal, the role will evolve toward client‑facing AI delivery as capabilities mature, with 40% internal development, 40% client engagements, and 20% continuous learning. Strong SQL, Python, BI skills and cloud data pipelines are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience with SQL, Power Query and Pandas.
• 3+ years experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Plotly, Seaborn, Matplotlib.
• 3+ years experience with Python and R for data science.
• Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented professional; ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI solutions addressing internal transportation business needs.
• Build reusable AI components and data pipelines for future client delivery.
• Manage full model lifecycle including development, deployment, monitoring, drift detection, retraining, and inference.
• Identify data availability, system integration, and tooling bottlenecks; collaborate with IT and stakeholders.
