Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Strategy & Operations Manager to help realize a new operating model within the Communications team. This role will translate priorities into action, lead high-impact initiatives from idea through implementation, and design better workflows that leverage AI to improve organizational operations.

Based in San Francisco, CA, the role offers a hybrid work model with relocation assistance for new employees.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience in strategy and operations or related fields.
• Experience working with senior leaders to drive cross-functional initiatives.
• Proven track record from idea to execution with measurable results.
• Experience rethinking team work with AI and adopting AI-enabled workflows.
• Strong strategic judgment to focus on high-impact work.
• Ability to translate ambiguous challenges into clear plans and outcomes.
• Strong analytical skills using data to inform decisions and measure impact.
• Ability to partner with technical builders and use no-code/automation tools.
• Clear communication and reliable judgment in decision-making.
• Highly organized with the capacity to manage multiple initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic initiatives and special projects across Communications with clear plans and successful implementation.
• Shape how teams set priorities, decisions, and execution for launches, campaigns, and longer-term work.
• Design AI-forward project management approaches and build momentum-rising systems.
• Create operating rhythms and processes that avoid unnecessary meetings or manual tracking.
• Translate emerging AI capabilities into practical workflows reducing repetitive work.
• Drive adoption of new tools and ways of working across Communications.
• Collaborate with senior leaders to translate priorities into plans, milestones, and outcomes.
• Build partnerships across Communications, Marketing, Global Affairs, Product and others.
• Use data and qualitative insights to evaluate effectiveness and improve operations.
• Foster a culture of ownership, experimentation, and high-quality execution.
