Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Payment Operations Analyst to own end-to-end payment workflows, resolve exceptions, and help improve reliability and efficiency across payroll-related money movements. You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, Accounting, Risk, and CX to address issues and drive improvements.

You’ll coordinate with bank partners and payment processors, triage escalations, and leverage AI to speed analysis, communication, and automation.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in payment operations, banking operations, treasury operations, or a related role at a fintech or financial institution.
• Knowledge of domestic payment rails (ACH/Nacha, wires, RTP) and international money movement; cross-border experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical instincts; ability to query or structure data (SQL a plus).
• Experience with bank portals, payment processors, or reconciliation tools.
• Ability to communicate clearly with both operational and technical counterparts.
• Comfortable working in ambiguity and taking ownership; proactive problem solver.
• Eager to build AI into daily work and improve productivity.
• Knowledge of Nacha rules, unclaimed property, and money transmission is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the operational layer of specific payment workflows: ACH processing, exception handling, refunds, collection re-debits, reconciliation; investigate and drive resolution.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to shape system design; surface operational pain points and define requirements; participate in launches.
• Close the loop on customer pain by mining CX feedback to identify friction and inform decisions.
• Think in systems across rails, partners, reconciliation, compliance, and customer experience; understand ripple effects of issues.
• Partner with bank and payment partners (domestic and international) to triage issues, manage escalations, and maintain relationships; lead with AI to accelerate analysis and communications.
