Job summary

Edenspiekermann, a design consultancy with 40+ years of experience, seeks a hands-on Design Director to join the US team in a permanent, remote-first role based in Southern California. You will lead complex digital-product and design-system engagements across regulated industries and medical technology, with AI as a core part of the practice.

You will set direction, lead senior client conversations, and help teams move from experiments to AI-enabled products, workflows, and operating models

Qualifications

• 8+ years in product design, UX/UI design, or design systems.
• Experience leading complex client or enterprise engagements.
• Portfolio demonstrates systems thinking and credible AI-enabled work.
• Led design systems across multiple products, platforms, or teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead client engagements end-to-end, from framing and design direction through delivery and adoption.
• Translate user needs, business goals, brand intent, accessibility, engineering, content, and compliance into clear product and system direction.
• Own the design quality of the work with strong visual, interaction, and systems-design craft.
• Direct the creation and evolution of scalable Figma libraries, component architectures, tokens, themes, patterns, and documentation.
• Work with product and engineering leaders to connect design decisions to production code and release processes.
• Establish governance and contribution models for distributed teams while keeping a central group lean.
• Facilitate workshops and decision-making with senior stakeholders across design, product, engineering, research, content, and compliance.
• Guide multidisciplinary teams, coach designers, and set a high bar for craft.
• Make AI an everyday part of design practice, including research synthesis and prototyping.
• Prototype AI-enabled product experiences and test their value for users.
• Experiment with new tools and models and share repeatable AI workflows.
• Evaluate AI output with guardrails for quality, accessibility, privacy, and accountability.
• Help shape Edenspiekermann's AI-enabled product and design-systems practice.
