Job summary

Kala Talent is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to own deployments from first technical conversation to production, partnering with customers and Product/Engineering to embed solutions in the core platform. You will turn customer workflows into AI systems, connect external data and APIs, and ensure reliable production behavior with guardrails.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience owning technical implementations or deployments involving multiple systems, integrations, or data sources.
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs, AI agents, retrieval systems, or AI-powered workflows.
• Strong experience working with APIs and integrating third-party or customer systems.
• Ability to work directly with technical and non-technical customer stakeholders and quickly understand how their operations work.
• Experience working in environments where requirements change, information is incomplete, and decisions need to be made quickly.
• Based in New York City or able to work regularly from the NYC office.

Responsibilities

• Own enterprise deployments from technical discovery and workflow design through launch and production iteration.
• Map complex customer processes and translate them into clear technical workflows, integrations, and agent behavior.
• Build and configure AI agents across prompting, retrieval, tool use, workflow logic, and external integrations.
• Define evaluations and guardrails to ensure agents behave reliably and predictably in production environments.
• Work directly with APIs, customer systems, operational data, and internal tools required for each deployment.
• Debug issues across agent behavior, integrations, data, and application logic.
• Identify recurring needs across customers and design reusable patterns instead of solving the same problem twice.
• Partner closely with Product and Engineering to influence platform capabilities based on what you learn in real deployments.
• Create technical documentation and implementation standards to support increasingly complex customers.
