Job summary

Reflection seeks a Data Product counsel to lead legal support for data acquisition, AI training, and agentic/search capabilities. You will translate US and international AI laws into actionable product roadmaps and collaborate with product, research, engineering, and safety teams.

This high‑impact role focuses on building scalable compliance programs, policies, and escalation pathways to enable rapid yet responsible AI development.

Qualifications

• J.D. and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 10+ years of experience product counselling for technology/AI sectors.
• Experience addressing product, regulatory, IP, privacy, and compliance risks.
• Experience advising on U.S. and international AI laws and data usage.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in evolving regulatory landscapes.
• Excellent cross-functional communication with engineers, researchers, and executives.
• Bonus: experience at a high-growth tech/AI company and with open source access tech.
• Bonus: addressing agentic/search capabilities in AI context.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Reflection’s primary legal contact for pre-training and data teams, advising on data acquisition and usage for AI training.
• Advise on agentic and search-based product proposals under evolving law.
• Provide legal guidance on data use, IP, privacy, licensing, and AI regulation.
• Design data integrity standards and compliance processes across US/international regulations.
• Partner with product, research, and engineering to implement data controls for responsible model releases.
• Advise on data considerations in partnerships, collaborations, and commercial deals.
• Support product teams on IP, safety, privacy, and AI regulatory requirements.
• Monitor developments from Congress, regulators, and international bodies and translate into practical guidance.
