Job summary

EY Challenger is hiring for a role that builds AI agents spanning intent to verified outcomes. You will architect long-running, production-ready systems that operate across enterprise workflows, balancing determinism, autonomy, safety, and user control.

You’ll work in Challenger Core to develop reusable patterns and improve real-world services. The opportunity blends applied AI, distributed systems, and product engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• 7–9 years of experience in software or applied ML engineering with ownership of production systems.
• Hands-on evidence of shipping large‑language‑model apps, agents, or complex model-driven workflows.
• Strong capability in Python, TypeScript, or another language used for production services.
• Experience with model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, tool use, and evaluation of variable behavior.
• Asynchronous work, state, concurrency, retries, and failure recovery.

Responsibilities

• Choose execution models and design agent architectures with justified complexity.
• Build dependable tools and interfaces with clear contracts and narrow authorization.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, and handoffs.
• Create durable context combining instructions, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities and budgets.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests for task success and recovery.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state and graceful degradation.
• Make behavior observable via end-to-end tracing and replay.
• Protect user control with explicit intervention points.
• Build shared capability with cross-functional teams and publish reusable patterns.
