Onyx Point, Inc. is seeking a Software Architect to own AWS infrastructure design, delivery, and evolution. You will blend deep AWS expertise with Java and Python development, mentor a small engineering team, and promote architectural best practices across the program.

You will design end-to-end architectures for event-driven services, implement code in Java/Spring Boot and Python Lambdas, and drive IaC, data access, and observability. Remote work options may be available for this senior role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field with significant work experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AWS services and architectural patterns for scalable systems.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading architectural discussions.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end, scalable, secure AWS architectures for event-driven services and data pipelines.
• Develop production Java (Spring Boot) and Python (Lambdas) services and containerized workloads.
• Define and maintain Infrastructure as Code with reproducible pipelines.
• Architect and implement data/access layers using DynamoDB, OpenSearch, SQS/SNS.
• Implement observability, monitoring, and alerting with CloudWatch and dashboards.
• Lead CI/CD and DevSecOps practices including Gitlab pipelines and blue-green deployments.
• Mentor 2-4 junior developers and perform code reviews and architecture deep dives.
• Prepare documentation, runbooks, and SOPs for on-call operations.

Description

Software Architect who will own the design, delivery, and evolution of our AWS infrastructure and associated application services. The ideal candidate blends deep AWS expertise (Lambda, OpenSearch, DynamoDB, SQS, CloudWatch, etc.) with hands on Java and Python development skills and can mentor a small team of junior engineers while driving architectural best practices across the program.

Responsibilities

• Design & Blueprint – Create end to end, scalable, secure, and cost optimized architectures for event driven services, data pipelines, and search solutions on AWS.
• Hands On Development – Write production grade Java (Spring Boot) and Python (Lambdas) services that run as AWS Lambda functions or containerized workloads (Kubernetes).
• Infrastructure as Code – Define and maintain IaC, ensuring reproducibility and version control of the entire stack
• Data & Messaging Layer – Architect and implement solutions leveraging DynamoDB, OpenSearch, SQS, SNS for high throughput, low latency data access and streaming.
• Observability & Reliability – Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting for CloudWatch and custom dashboards.
• CI/CD & DevSecOps - Be familiar with Gitlab pipeline, static code analysis, blue-green/canary deployments.
• Technical Leadership – Mentor 2 4 junior developers, conduct code reviews, run architecture deep dives, and champion best practice adoption (clean code, design patterns)
• Collaboration – Be able to communicate technical details / solutions as well as roadblocks to leadership and business stakeholders and provide robust solutions as needed.
• Documentation – Produce clear, up to date architectural diagrams, run books, and knowledge base articles to enable cross team consumption. Be able to prepare Standard Operating Procedure for frequently executed as well as on-call operations.

Analyze, design, verify, validate, implement, apply and maintain software systems. Appropriately apply discrete mathematics, probability and statistics, and other relevant topics in computer science and supporting disciplines to complex software systems. Generalize techniques, as appropriate, to apply to multiple domains. Develop and provide appropriate documentation and training. Present briefings and demonstrations to stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree plus twelve years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 10 years of relevant experience. An Associate's degree plus 14 yers of relevant experience or high school diploma/GED plus 16 years of experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position. Certifications count as a year experience.

Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Degree may be waived for technical experience in domain skillsets outlined the requisition posting. Certifications count as a year experience.

Compensation

We are committed to providing fair and competitive compensation. The salary range for this position is $78,000 to $250,000 per year. This range reflects the compensation offered across the locations where we hire. The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate's work location, specific role, skill set, and level of expertise.
