Job Summary
Managing the daily operation of a sand mine, including supervision of salaried supervisors and hourly employees. Responsible for budgeting, mine planning, permitting, and working as a member of the plant management team to achieve operational goals and objectives. Manages contracts and contractors, and maintains community relations.
Job Responsibilities
- Achieve and/or maintain Zero4Life initiatives.
- Utilize VFL program and support SIC and SBO programs.
- Promote a healthy workforce.
- Track and maintain costs in the sand mine operation.
- Develop and maintain a safe and environmentally compliant operation with the assistance of Safety and Environmental Representatives.
- Develop new operational methods to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with Corporate Mine Planning staff and local QC staff to develop short-term and long-term mining plans.
- Direct production to meet goals.
- Minimize overtime, schedule vacations, etc.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to maintain equipment through scheduling and oversight.
- Manage purchasing of routine materials in coordination with Procurement.
- Ensure operational compliance with zoning and permits.
- Develop an annual budget for the operation.
- Meet MSHA and local safety requirements and address environmental concerns at this sensitive location.
- Represent the company in the local community and maintain community relations.
- Understand basic financial reporting related to aggregate operations.
- Use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to guide production and identify areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with sales to plan inventory requirements.
- Adhere to all company, MSHA, and OSHA rules and regulations, including proper safety equipment usage.
- Meet or exceed safety standards.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 3 years of mine supervision experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- AutoCAD experience is a plus; willingness to learn mining software (e.g., Surpac Quarry).
- Ability to work outdoors and perform physical labor as needed.
- Self-motivated team player focused on mission accomplishment.
Working Conditions
- Extended hours as needed.
- Overnight travel as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to operate, activate, and inspect equipment, and perform physical tasks, including exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
- Sitting most of the time, with walking or standing for brief periods.
- Regularly communicate verbally and in writing.
