Job Summary
Managing daily operations of a sand mine, including supervision of salaried supervisors and hourly employees. Responsible for budgeting, mine planning, permitting, and working as a member of the plant management team to achieve operational goals. Manages contracts, contractors, and community relations.
Job Responsibilities
- Achieve and/or maintain Zero4Life initiatives.
- Utilize VFL program and support SIC and SBO programs.
- Promote a healthy workforce.
- Track and maintain operational costs.
- Develop and maintain a safe, environmentally compliant operation with safety and environmental representatives.
- Develop new operational methods to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
- Coordinate with corporate mine planning and local QC staff for short and long-term mining plans.
- Direct production to meet goals.
- Minimize overtime, schedule vacations, etc.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance with maintenance personnel.
- Manage procurement of routine materials.
- Ensure compliance with zoning and permits.
- Develop and manage the annual budget.
- Meet MSHA and local safety and environmental requirements.
- Represent the company within the local community.
- Understand basic financial reporting related to operations.
- Use Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to guide production and improvements.
- Coordinate with sales for inventory planning.
- Adhere to all safety and operational regulations, wearing proper safety equipment.
- Maintain safety standards and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of mine supervision experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- AutoCAD experience preferred; willingness to learn mining software like Surpac Quarry.
- Ability to work outdoors and perform physical labor when necessary.
- Self-motivated team player focused on achieving goals.
Working Conditions
- Extended hours as needed.
- Overnight travel as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to operate, activate, and inspect equipment.
- Occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
- Primarily sitting, with walking or standing for short periods.
- Regular communication via talking and hearing.
