Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Brandywine is seeking a part‑time aquatic coach in Coatesville, PA to oversee the 12 & Under program and work with youth ages 5‑18. Communicate regularly with members and parents, build season plans, manage meet entries, and train staff to deliver a high‑quality YMCA swim program.

You will assist the Director of Competitive Aquatics, develop season strategies, organize meets, recruit volunteers, and ensure safe, inclusive participation across all levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience (preferred).
• Competitive swimming experience for a minimum of 5 years (preferred).
• Current lifeguard certifications or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
• At least 5 years of coaching experience with swimmers of all ages.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• YMCA and USA swimming coaches’ credential or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to demonstrate all swim strokes.
• Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff (required).
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
• Display a positive and professional attitude and possess strong interpersonal skills.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee and coach the 12 & Under age group (mini, level 3, level 2) programming: communicate regularly with members and parents.
• Assist the Director of Competitive Aquatics:
  • Build a season plan (including meets) and implement.
  • Maintain team database and all 12 & Under meet entries.
  • Staff age groups as needed and provide training.
  • Perform administration duties such as account management, LSC/USA registrations, and USA program implementation.
  • Develop vision and season plans for the team.
  • Determine events to attend and season plans accordingly.
  • Deliver a high‑quality, mission‑focused YMCA age‑group competitive swim team program for youth ages 5‑18.
  • Manage coaching schedules and vacation schedules, ensuring coverage at all times.
  • Offer a year‑round program with short‑course and long‑course options as well as a competitive summer league.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of program participants.
  • Oversee the practice schedule at all levels, attend meets, and support the entire competitive program.
• Facilitate summer swim program:
  • Create new opportunities for athletes to improve the experience.
  • Manage and organize participation, registration, and logistics of swimmers at all swim meets.
  • Create home swim meets, manage meet entries.
  • Organize volunteers for events and serve as point of contact for volunteer communication.
  • Teach and instruct participants using an appropriate curriculum that addresses skill levels and ensures inclusiveness.
  • Follow association guidelines for budget, travel, and meet participation.
  • Coordinate vacation outside the competitive season.
  • Assist with annual campaign activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
