Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Youth Development Teacher to directly work with youth aged 5-12 in a licensed after-school setting at a YMCA facility or local elementary school site. You will lead program planning, activities, and supervision under the Site Supervisor, helping youth learn, grow, and become active, responsible citizens.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
• Completion, with passing grades, of 12 units in Child Development (CD) or related field.
• Completion, with passing grades, of 6 units with 6 more units of current enrollment in CD or related field.
• Minimum of 6 months working in a child and youth development, education, or comparable setting preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to speak, read, and write the English language; additional languages are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Implement age-appropriate program activities that engage students in active experiences.
• Actively supervise program participants, ensuring guidance and safety.
• Communicate professionally with participants, families, school personnel, and partners.
• Collaborate with school personnel to align high-quality academic activities.
• Provide positive behavior guidance supporting social-emotional and physical needs.
• Ensure the program meets YMCA requirements and policies.
• Perform daily duties to keep spaces clean, organized, and safe.
• Follow emergency procedures to protect participants and staff.
• Provide leadership to YMCA Youth Development Aide.
• Be dependable and flexible with schedule changes.
• Maintain visual/auditory readiness for emergencies and safety.
