Job summary

YMCA of San Diego invites applications for a Youth Development Teacher to work with youth aged 5-12 in a licensed before and after-school program at a local elementary site. You will lead activities, supervise youth, and help them learn in a safe, supportive environment.

Under the Site Supervisor, you will plan and implement engaging activities, collaborate with school staff, and ensure program requirements are met. Availability at least 4 days per week is required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
• Completion, with passing grades, of 12 units in Child Development (CD) or related field.
• Minimum of 6 months working in a child and youth development setting preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to speak, read, and write English; additional languages desirable.
• Criminal record clearance per YMCA guidelines.
• TB test results current; measles, pertussis, and influenza immunizations required.
• Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Implement age-appropriate program activities engaging students.
• Actively supervise program participants ensuring safety.
• Communicate professionally with participants, families, school personnel, and partners.
• Collaborate with school personnel to align academic activities and coordinate student services.
• Provide positive behavior guidance supporting developmental needs.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe space; follow emergency procedures.
• Provide leadership to assigned YMCA Youth Development Aide.
