Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Afterschool Coordinator for the McBurney YMCA in New York City. The role supports K-8 activities, ensures alignment with school goals, and manages day-to-day operations in a safe, engaging afterschool setting.

You will implement SEL activities, monitor attendance, maintain records, and collaborate with school partners to deliver a high-quality program that supports learning and personal growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Education preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children under 13.
• Current Pediatrics CPR or First Aid certifications preferred.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfortable working with diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Direct programs serving the designated grade level band (K-5 or 6-8) aligned with DYCD program requirements.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and oversee engaging activities that support holistic student development.
• Ensure programs are integrated into the community served and meet diverse needs.
• Develop and execute strategies for recruiting and retaining participants to achieve high attendance and engagement.
• Routinely analyze data to identify trends and adjust programs to improve quality and outcomes.
• Maintain documentation and compliance with OCFS, DOH, DYCD, and YMCA standards.
