The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Afterschool Coordinator for the McBurney YMCA in New York, NY. The role supports afterschool program goals, ensures safety and learning, and coordinates academic and enrichment activities for school-age children.

Under the supervision of the Program Director, you will manage day-to-day operations, data entry, and licensing compliance while collaborating with host schools, families, and community partners to deliver engaging, standards-aligned

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Education preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience with children under 13.
• CPR or First Aid certifications preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills with diverse youth and adults.
• Y Afterschool operates 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and during school breaks.

Responsabilités

• Direct programs serving designated grade bands (K-5 or 6-8) aligned with DYCD requirements.
• Drive SEL practices and deliver engaging activities supporting holistic development.
• Integrate programs into the host community and meet diverse needs.
• Recruit and retain participants, aiming for high attendance and engagement.
• Use data and external evaluations to demonstrate program effectiveness.
• Analyze data to identify trends and implement improvements.
• Establish connections with community partners, funders, and evaluators.
• Promote mental wellness and train staff in supportive environments.
• Oversee SEL curriculum (COMPASS Elementary or SONYC) and define competencies.
• Maintain strong relationships with school administration and staff.
• Coordinate activity schedules (STEAM, Literacy) with host school goals.
• Maintain program documentation per OCFS, DOH, DYCD, and YMCA requirements.
• Communicate YMCA core values to participants and caregivers.
• Engage with parents/guardians regularly about child’s growth.
• Participate in trainings, meetings, and special events.
• Adhere to all standards and regulations from relevant authorities.
