Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Inclusion Specialist for McBurney YMCA to support afterschool programs and help young people thrive socially, emotionally, and physically.

You will guide staff on behavioral strategies, manage accommodation plans, and collaborate with families and schools while upholding safety standards and accessibility for participants with diverse abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Social Sciences, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required.
• Minimum of two years of experience working with children under 13.
• Current Pediatrics CPR or First Aid certification preferred.
• Ability to speak multiple languages preferred.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities; comfortable working with diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Actively welcome and develop programming in partnership with the Content Specialist to serve a diverse group of participants, ensuring accessibility for all.
• Develop and implement inclusive outreach strategies to engage individuals who may face barriers to participation, including physical barriers.
• Foster a safe, welcoming environment where all participants and families feel valued and heard.
• Manage participants’ Individualized Accommodation Plans.
• Maintain student behavioral support plans and logs.
• Support systems for tracking student behaviors and collaborating with staff, caregivers, and teachers to identify behavior support techniques.
