Job summary

Hebrew Public is seeking an Afterschool Counselor to lead and supervise students in an afterschool program on Staten Island. The role emphasizes creating engaging arts, crafts, sports, and enrichment activities and maintaining a safe, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities include designing age-appropriate activities, monitoring behavior, coordinating with staff, and communicating with families about student progress.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Elementary/Middle School teaching experience preferred.
• NYS certification in content area or working towards certification preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Legally authorized to work in the USA.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

What's the Role

We are seeking a driven Afterschool Counselor that operates with a high sense of urgency and possesses a strong work ethic. Candidates for this position do NOT need to speak Hebrew.

What You'll Do

• Lead and supervise students in a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, sports, homework assistance, and enrichment projects.
• Design and implement age-appropriate activities that foster creativity, teamwork, and learning.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants.
• Monitor student behavior, provide guidance, and address any challenges with care and professionalism.
• Work closely with other afterschool staff to ensure a cohesive and well-organized program.
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, sharing updates on student participation and progress as needed.
• Track attendance and maintain accurate records of student activities.
• Follow school policies and procedures to ensure a secure and compliant program.

Who You Are

• High School Diploma from an accredited institution is required;
• Elementary and/or Middle School teaching experience preferred
• Hold NYS certification in content area or working towards certification is preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Legally authorized to work in the USA
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Compensation: $20/hour

Schedule: Mondays-Thursdays from 2:00PM-6:00PM, also flexible for Fridays from 7:30AM-1:30PM
