Job summary

Hebrew Public is seeking an Afterschool Counselor to lead and supervise students in an afterschool program on Staten Island. The role emphasizes creating engaging arts, crafts, sports, and enrichment activities and maintaining a safe, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities include designing age-appropriate activities, monitoring behavior, coordinating with staff, and communicating with families about student progress.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma is required.
• Elementary/Middle School teaching experience preferred.
• NYS certification in content area or working towards certification preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Legally authorized to work in the USA.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise students in arts, crafts, sports, homework, and enrichment activities.
• Design and implement age-appropriate activities fostering creativity and teamwork.
• Maintain a safe, positive, inclusive environment for all participants.
• Monitor behavior and provide guidance with care and professionalism.
• Collaborate with other afterschool staff for a cohesive program.
• Communicate with parents/guardians and share updates on participation and progress.
• Track attendance and maintain records of student activities.
• Follow school policies to maintain a secure program.
