Job summary

Flatbush Development Corporation seeks an Activity Specialist to design, implement, and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate activities for students in grades K–8 within a school-based afterschool program. You will supervise participants, support youth development, and ensure alignment with DYCD, DOH, and DOE guidelines.

The role emphasizes creativity, academic growth, and social-emotional development through structured lessons, projects, and performances that showcase participant achievement.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Education, Youth Development, Child Development, or related field (preferred) or equivalent experience working with school-age youth.
• Experience designing and facilitating structured activities for children in K–8 in Art, Dance, Music Production, Reading, Math, STEM, Chess, Robotics/Coding.
• Knowledge of youth development principles, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed practice.
• Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
• Required certifications: CPR/First Aid (or willingness to obtain), and compliance with OCFS/DYCD training requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities for K–8 students.
• Facilitate Arts, STEM, Literacy, Recreation, and Enrichment activities that promote engagement and creativity.
• Plan activities that culminate in projects, showcases, or performances to celebrate achievement.
• Support social-emotional growth and trauma-informed practices.
• Participate in mandatory trainings and stay updated on DYCD/DOH/DOE/OCFS regulations.
