Job summary

Flatbush Development Corporation is seeking a Group Leader to supervise and engage youth in grades K-8 during afterschool programs, Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM–6:00 PM. The role supports activities, homework, and enrichment, ensuring a safe, structured environment in line with DYCD, DOH, and NYCDOE guidelines.

You will collaborate with teachers and staff, plan lessons, help with materials, and reinforce positive youth development.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred.
• Experience with school-age children in afterschool, camp, or youth programs.
• Ability to lead activities, manage groups, and engage youth from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Must pass all required background checks, fingerprinting, and DOE clearance.

Responsibilities

• Supervising program participants at all times during program operation and at all locations.
• Assisting in the safe pickup and delivery of participants as assigned by the program director.
• Providing active homework assistance to ensure engagement during homework time.
• Planning and implementing engaging academic enrichment and recreation activities.
• Preparing daily lesson plans and using curricular materials to facilitate activities.
• Initiating guidance and support sessions with appropriate staff when needed.
• Gathering supplies and preparing the activity space.
• Assisting teachers and activity specialists in facilitating lessons/activities.
• Creating and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment.
• Following the program schedule and ensuring participants adhere to it.
• Applying positive youth development principles and behavior management.
• Participating in meetings and trainings; minimum 15 hours of training per year.
• Adhering to NYS SACC regulations and program procedures for safety.
• Notifying supervisors of any issues that affect service quality or safety.
