Job summary

The Harker School seeks a part-time Library Assistant for the Upper School campus in San Jose, CA. The role starts August 10 and runs Monday through Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The successful candidate will support the campus librarian with library operations, displays, and user assistance.

Responsibilities include classroom preparation, circulation, catalog updates, and helping maintain a safe, organized library environment for students and staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year in a library, school, or bookstore.
• At least 1 year working with groups of children.
• At least 1 year of clerical experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of the library for instruction.
• Create and maintain library displays.
• Use basic library information technologies to assist users in locating materials.
• Monitor and maintain acceptable student behavior.
• Contact faculty regarding library materials and programs.
• Maintain a neat library by organizing and shelving books; dust and clean equipment.
• Maintain circulation records and inventory; handle lost/damaged/overdue materials.
