Job summary

Good Shepherd Services in New York seeks an After School Group Leader to supervise and guide a group of participants at the Prince Joshua Avitto Community Center. The role focuses on safety, development, and engaging educational activities including arts and crafts.

You will plan sequenced curricula, foster positive youth growth, and coordinate with instructors and staff. Flexibility for school-year scheduling is required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• HS Diploma or GED and 1 year related experience in leading youth activities.
• Experience building camp culture through chants and team-building.
• Ability to contribute arts, music, crafts, etc.
• Commitment to working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
• Commitment to strength-based, trauma-informed youth development.

Responsibilities

• Overall supervision and management of the identified group of participants.
• Engage participants in after school activities and model appropriate behavior.
• Ensure safety of participants at all times.
• Engage in outreach to ensure attendance and participation.
• Provide support to activity instructors and other group leaders.
• Develop and facilitate a sequenced curriculum and activities including arts and crafts.
• Integrate lessons with literacy, history and related subjects when applicable.
• Develop positive relationships with participants, staff and school personnel.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as specified.
• Maintain records and uphold program policies and procedures.
• Plan and prepare culminating events to showcase activities.
• Engage with parents professionally.
• Resolve conflicts and escalate as needed.
• Supervise support staff and track participants’ progress.
• Ensure safe arrival and dismissal of all participants.
